SURGEONS COMMITTEE CHAIR

Dear colleagues, It gives me immense pleasure to invite you to the 29th SICOT Young Surgeons International Meeting to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on the 5th and 6th of October 2024.

SICOT (Societe Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopedique et de Traumatologie) is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the advancement of the science and art of orthopedics and traumatology at an international level, in particular for the improvement of patient care, and to foster and develop teaching, research and education. Being the only orthopedic organization comprising a diverse membership of 120 countries from across the globe, it is an amalgamation of orthopedic surgeons from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds who bring along with them their unique knowledge, clinical and surgical skillsets and experiences in treating a wide range of regional orthopedic conditions. It is one of the first organizations to have an exclusive committee to nurture young surgeons and to provide them with the opportunities for education, global networking, collaborative research, and mentorship.

SICOT maintains the philosophy that “Orthopedic education should be available, accessible and appropriate for surgeons no matter their background, culture or resources”.

In line with its philosophy, SICOT brings together the orthopedic community under a common roof to facilitate sharing of diverse experiences by orthopedic colleagues, to create and disseminate knowledge across geographic boundaries, and to provide a universal platform of equal opportunities to learn and acquire the essential knowledge and skills to deliver optimal musculoskeletal care to the patient community. “Collective wisdom translates into better decision making” in clinical scenarios thereby providing optimal outcomes for the patient.

The aim of SICOT International Young Surgeons Meeting is to provides a unique and exclusive platform for young orthopedic surgeons to showcase their scientific work, network with colleagues from other countries thereby facilitating exchange of culture and knowledge, to indulge in collaborative learning and research and foster lasting friendships to enable professional development. It also aims to strengthen friendship with the regional orthopedic associations to facilitate collaboration, create student exchange programs, develop regional fellowships, and promote collaborative research.

I take this opportunity along with the President Dr. Philippe Hernigou and the Education Academy Chair Dr. Gowreeson Thevendran, to extend a hearty welcome to young orthopedic surgeons from Malaysia and all the countries in the South East Asian region and across the globe to come in great numbers to meet colleagues from across the world to foster lasting friendships, exchange ideas, collaborate to deliver purposeful research and to hone your clinical and surgical skills by interacting with master surgeons in your region.
